Economic Democracy In Action

A conference has been organized by Prout Research Institute of Portugal (PRIP) jointly with the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilha, Portugal (near to the Ananda Kalyani Master Unit).

ECONOMIC DEMOCRACY IN ACTION – STRATEGIES FOR LOCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The data is in, the experts have spoken: the current economic system is unsustainable—both economically and environmentally. Our economic fundamentals have proven to be faulty. We have entered a perfect storm of economic inequality, financial speculation, resource depletion, and environmental destruction. As the Chinese proverb says; if we want to change course, we cannot go in the same direction as we have been going. We must change direction. It’s time for economic system change.

This conference will be a meeting point for people and institutions seeking new solutions and socio-economic models focused on people and the planet, with a local and global perspective. The conference will present new examples of economic democracy, development of resilient local economies, cooperatives managed by workers or producers, social and environmental enterprises, etc.
